Richard Stravitz is a native of Manhasset, Long Island, New York. He graduated with a B.B.A from Adelphi University. Throughout his successful business career, Richard pursued his interests in art, painting, and sculpture.
In 1983, Richard moved to Richmond, Virginia. In 1990, he took early retirement to devote his time to a lifelong love of art and sculpting. Richard studied sculpture at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond. He refined his skills under the direction of Bruno Luccesi, Blair Boswell, and Peter Rubino at the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, the Vaugel Sculpture Studio in France, and Richard McDonald's Professional Sculpting Studio.
Commissions include John Marshall Law School, Eppington Museum, Gateway Foundation, Mary Washington University, Louisiana State University, Benedictine High School, The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, the College of William & Mary, and several private collectors. Richard's sculptures are also on display at the Supreme Court Building of Virginia, the John Marshall House, the Virginia Historical Society, and the Twin Towers in downtown Richmond.
Recognition and awards include: the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art ShowBest Sculpture, U.S. Sports Academy Sports Artist of the Year2004 Runner-Up, International Olympic Committee 2004 Summer Games Sports Artist ContestRunner-Up, and by special invitation an exhibition at the prestigious National Sculpture Society, New York, N.Y.
